🐳💦 Bladder leakage after kids
Even though the pelvic floor experiences trauma during childbirth, with the right support the tissues should heal and normal functions SHOULD resume. This is typically not the case because moms aren’t told about their options for support
🤕 Painful Periods
Period cramps may be uncomfortable, but they should never be painful. Especially never painful enough to need medications to endure. They should never debilitate you & keep you from school, work, or fun.
🪡 C-section healing & trauma
New moms shouldn’t be stitched back up & handed an 8lb bundle to hold & care for 24 hours a day — that’s not how any other abdominal surgery is treated. Proper post-op care should be offered along with a referral to pelvic floor physical therapy to provide moms with the proper support for normal symptom-free recovery
❤️🩹 ’Postpartum depression’ — now more accurately termed Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders
Mental health struggles go far beyond ‘baby blues’ & need to be recognized as such, because so many expecting or new moms can experience such intense emotions that they hold silently
😡 Constipation
This is never normal, no matter what age or stage you’re in — yes your fluctuating hormones may shift things, but it should never result in constipation
🌶️ Pain with intimacy, tampon insertion, or pelvic exams
Pain can occur from foreplay activities as well. ANY discomfort or pain with ANY type of intimate activity should NEVER be termed normal — it should always be a positive experience for both parties
🛝Pelvic Organ Prolapse
This should never be brushed off as a side-effect of labor & delivery. You deserve proper support to manage symptoms & understand what’s actually going on in your body
🚨Birth Trauma
The spectrum for birth trauma is so vast & no mom should ever be left to heal from this without support. It can leave long-lasting mental & physical effects if not addressed.
