Some PEARLS of PELVIC WISDOM for you that I talk through with all my patients along their healing journey!
π π»ββοΈ NO PAIN SHOULD BE CALLED βNORMALβ
Period pain isnβt normal, pain with any type of intimacy isnβt normal, pain with bowel or bladder emptying is NOT normal β we should NOT have doctors normalizing our pain. Pelvic floor physical therapists take the time to listen to all of your concerns here, make you feel validated & heard while we work on ways to relieve the pain while identifying the root causes for pain prevention
π KEGELS WONβT FIX THE PROBLEM
In a nutshell, most pelvic floors are too TENSE, so asking them to contract & tense up even more usually just makes the symptoms worse. We typically need the pelvic floor to be able to lengthen & stretch before we can ask if to strengthen properly (still not really with kegels π)
π½ BETTER DIGESTION HELPS EVERYTHING π§»
Literally my favorite thing to educate on because if digestion improves it makes everything else in your body feel better. The digestive tract runs from your mouth allll the way through your body & ends at the rectum.
When this full-body system functions better β I have patients notice it mentally (less brain fog), less heart burn & indigestion after meals, easier & more regular bowel movements, better appetite, better sleep, better mood, more energy β itβs crazy how much better patients feel across the board if I get them to eat mindfully & poop regularly
π€π½ FASCIA HOLDS ONTO EVERYTHING πͺπ½
It acts like a sticky spiderweb β wrapping around every muscle, nerve, joint & organ β itβs everywhere! So if this is restricted in any way, it can have far reaching effects across the body!
π― IT CONNECTS YOUR JAW TO YOUR TOES π£
Through the GI system (mouth to butt, remember?), neural connections, & fascia β there are several ways that the pelvic floor connects to our entire body β understanding these connections & how to influence them is a huge part of pelvic floor therapy & finding long-term relief!
